Pin-up photo's of Rita, Betty and Esther were adorned on the footlockers of countless G I's during ww 2 Beautiful women had been printed for many years by Armstrong, Christy and Gibson but it was not until Esquire Magazine began to publish George Petty's humorous one panel cartoons that the pin-up became popular. Petty, Rolf Armstrong and Gil Evgren began creating some of the most memorable calendar and magazine covers ever. Pin-up art continue to grow throughout the 50's. Pin-ups were now everywhere. In some cases during ww2 the pinup was a soldiers only link back home and many Hollywood actresses of the time were first pin-ups before becoming famous actresses. Some of the biggest pin-up models include Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page. By the 60's the world of the pinup became lost in the sea of porn magazines and movies. Today pin-up art is being re-discovered and introduced to a new generation of people around the world and original paintings and photo's of pin-up girls are commanding tens of thousands of dollars.
